HOW TO DOWNLOAD RAW VIDEO FILES OFF GOOGLE DRIVE

A 10 Step Guide By Jay Grubb Photography For Clients

(screen Shots coming soon)

STEP 1

First, copy the link that sent to your email. To do this, highlight the link with your mouse starting from the back the link. Make sure the whole link is highlighted as seen in the picture beside this step! Once fully highlighted, hold down Ctrl + C to copy it (Command + C for mac computers).

Note: We recommend using your Gmail Account(Google) or Creating a Google Account if you do not have one. You will also receive a Google Drive where you can store memories into the cloud for safekeeping.

STEP 2

Secondly, open your internet browser. You may have Internet Explorer, Firefox, Google Chrome or Safari. This technique has been tested working on all of them working. In the top URL box, click on the space open as seen in the picture and hold down Ctrl + V (Command + V for mac computers). This will paste the URL link from the email to the browser. Then press Enter!

STEP 3

Click DOWNLOAD. Even if it says Processing click on the Download Button or if there is a preview still click the little download button in the top right corner. The Download button is a downwards arrow into a line. After clicking download a new window or page should appear.

STEP 4

A New Pop Up Window should appear. Click Download Anyway! The Reason(s) Google Drive cannot scan the file are A. because file sharing programs aren't made very well and B. because photo and video files are too large to scan on their system. Either way it is safe to download. Proceed ahead & click download.

STEP 5

After clicking Download Anyway, the download should have started automatically saving to your downloads folder if you are using google chrome or safari. If you are using internet explorer it will prompt you whether to download and/or save as shown in the picture. In this case, click save or save as to a specific location on your computer.

STEP 6

Let the download proceed without interruption. Do NOT download more than one raw/full cut file at the same time. Your download may take 10 - 30 minutes depending on your internet speed and the file size (Raw/Full Cut files are often large 13 to 15 gig files. I recommend walking away for that time and leaving your computer on and not using it for the duration of the download. This will make sure it downloads correctly. Also, be sure to turn any screen savers or energy saving options off on your computer. This includes putting your computer to sleep to save power. If your computer falls asleep it will pause the download or cause the download to fail entirely.

STEP 7

When your download is complete, open the folder you saved it in or the folder that your downloads automatically show up in; often named "downloads". You should be able to click on the .mov file and play it right away as it is a very universal file type. If you cannot open or play the movie file skip to STEP 9 on this guide! But don't forget to do STEP 8 afterwards.

STEP 8

Back Up Your Precious Photos & Video Footage! After downloading your Raw/Full Cut file(s) from Google Drive, it is now time to store that footage so that it doesn't get deleted ever! I suggest using a usb or hard drive that is new. The most widely supported format for usbs/hard drives is ExFat for use on both MAC/PC and on televisions. To save the files onto these devices, drag the files onto the device(s) and wait for them to finish uploading. My professional suggestion is putting the footage on two additional USB or hard drives in order to have 3 copies. You can also upload a copy to your Google Drive personal account. This will maintain a virtual copy always regardless of hardware failures. I also recommend you do this step for any footage, photos, files, or important documents you don't want to lose.

STEP 9

This step is only incase you cannot play these Raw/Full Cut files on your MAC/PC Computer. This means you are either using an out-of-date video player or graphics drivers (or) the file did not download properly/fully. We will assume that your video player is the problem which is a common problem. We recommend using a program called VLC for all your video playing needs. VLC is free and plays all video types including 4k. Go to the website https://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html or Google search "VLC "which should appear as the first link on the search. Download VLC and install it on your computer, it is both MAC and PC compatible. You will never need another movie player! After installing go to your raw files in the download folder and right click on one of them as seen in the picture beside this STEP. Select "open with," then select "VLC" and voila! Your watching your Raw Full Cut film!

STEP 10

Did you know with modern tbs you can plug your usb thumb drive or hard drive into an HD television? Sit Back with family and friends and enjoy all your moments and memories. Highly recommended for holidays or Anniversaries. This file type will play on almost anything through a usb. *If your tv is usb capable.
